Location

Voels am Schlern/Fie allo Sciliar (in Sudtirol region all towns have double name, Italian and German) is located in the heart of the most beautiful and extravagant landscapes in Europe , the Dolomite mountains in the North-Eastern Italian Alps. It is about 860 meters (2600 ft.) above sea level. The climate is very gentle and the air is pure. Superb place for walking, climbing, swimming and biking. Historically, the area is known to have settlements already in the Bronze age and possibly earlier. There are many local attractions including the Medieval castle Proesels, Medieval and Renaissance churches, ancient flour mill (recently restored). The natural resources are breath-taking and include the Schlern Nature Park and Weiher Lake in addition to the surrounding mountains and valleys. Local farmers bring their fresh organic produce to town regularly. Restaurants and cafes in Voels am Schlern are numerous and uniformly excellent.

Voels am Schlern is surrounded by a cluster of charming Alpine villages and is close to Bolzano/Bozen, major Italian city. A two-hour train ride will take you from Bolzano/Bozen to Verona or Mantua; Milan, Venice, Cremona, Florence and Ferrara are only 3-4 hours away, and Gustav Mahler's summer home in Toblach/Dobbiaco, Sudtirol, is just 100 kilometers away. Daytrips by coach are offered.

IC and EC trains stop at Bolzano/Bozen and Brixen. Visitors are brought to Voels am Schlern by local shuttle.
